Exotic leathers: luxury and controversy

For or against the use of exotic leather?

Python, crocodile, lizard, ostrich... With their unique texture and distinctive look, these leathers are associated with luxury leather goods. 

But behind this scarcity lie ethical and environmental debates. Should their use be banned?
Opinions differ. Some defend the preservation of animals and the risks of mistreatment. But the stakes go far beyond that. Deforestation and water pollution are also challenges posed by exotic leathers.

The European companies that use these exotic species do so in compliance with the strict rules laid down by Cites and the Washington Convention: preservation of species, unitary traceability of skins, breeding practices, reintroduction of animals into the wild.
